Islamabad, Pakistan and Indonesia on Tuesday agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, education, health, agriculture, technology and other key sectors, including the deployment of Pakistani doctors, medical professors and technical experts to Indonesia.
The agreement was reached during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Islamabad, followed by an exchange of agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) between the two countries.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the meeting as “extremely positive and constructive” and said that President Prabowo’s visit after a seven-year gap would take Pakistan–Indonesia relations to new heights. He said the bilateral relationship, spanning over 75 years, had remained strong through difficult times and that both countries shared similar views on regional and international matters.
The prime minister recalled that Muhammad Ali Jinnah had supported Indonesia’s independence struggle and said that Indonesia stood firmly with Pakistan during the 1965 war. He expressed confidence that ties between the two Muslim-majority nations would continue to deepen over time.
President Prabowo Subianto thanked the Pakistani leadership and people for their warm welcome and praised the ceremonial aerial salute by JF-17 Thunder aircraft. He welcomed Pakistan’s offer of cooperation in the health sector and said the deployment of Pakistani doctors and specialists would significantly benefit Indonesia.
He said both countries shared common interests, values and historical ties, and reiterated that Indonesia and Pakistan held similar positions on global issues, particularly the situation in Gaza. He added that the foreign ministers of both countries remained in close contact.
During the proceedings, both sides exchanged a number of agreements and MoUs aimed at enhancing cooperation in trade, education, health, agriculture, technology and other areas. President Prabowo also extended an invitation to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to visit Indonesia.
