Pakistan Maritime Affairs Minister Highlights China-Pakistan-Africa Logistics Corridor and Maritime Industry Opportunities

Beijing, Minister for Maritime Affairs, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, as part of the Prime Minister’s delegation, visited China to meet with senior executives of leading Chinese companies and discuss strategic collaborations in Pakistan’s maritime sector.

Minister Chaudhry emphasized the potential of a China–Gwadar–Africa Logistics Corridor, aimed at strengthening regional trade links and positioning Gwadar as a key logistics hub. During meetings with companies such as Shandong Zhen Zhu Group, he discussed plans for a Maritime Industrial Complex in Pakistan, signaling opportunities for joint ventures in shipbuilding and leasing. He confirmed that the government will provide land and necessary facilities to support these initiatives.

Addressing sustainable development, Minister Chaudhry highlighted that ship recycling facilities will be built in line with international standards. He also encouraged joint projects in new ship construction and leasing, with potential collaboration at Port Qasim and Gwadar, focusing on dry docks and floating docks.

Investment opportunities were further discussed in cold chain logistics and bulk cargo handling, underlining Pakistan’s ambition to develop Gwadar into a regional maritime and trade hub.

On the seafood sector, Minister Chaudhry announced plans to establish a European-certified fish processing plant to boost exports, ensuring adherence to international quality standards.

This visit underscores Pakistan’s commitment to expanding its maritime infrastructure, logistics capabilities, and regional trade integration, while inviting international partnerships to strengthen the country’s position in the global maritime economy.
