NA Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq addresses Curtain-Raiser Ceremony of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference

Islamabad, Speaker National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has said that parliaments across the world are the true reflection of the aspirations of the citizens. He emphasized that parliaments are not merely legislative bodies but are the most vital forums for dialogue, consensus-building, and the promotion of democratic values. Speaker NA expressed these views while addressing the curtain-raiser ceremony of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference, which is scheduled to be held on 11–12 November 2025 under the auspices of the Senate of Pakistan. He stated that it was a matter of great pleasure for him to participate in the event. He congratulated Chairman Senate, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, for hosting a dignified ceremony and lauded his efforts to promote parliamentary diplomacy.

Speaker NA remarked that Pakistan’s bicameral parliamentary system is actively engaged in serving the people, with both the National Assembly and the Senate playing a pivotal role in strengthening democratic governance. Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq further highlighted that Pakistan’s Parliament has been playing an effective role both regionally and globally, participating actively in forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC).

Referring to the Six-Nation Speakers’ Conference, hosted by Pakistan, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq termed it a milestone in advancing regional cooperation. The conference, which brought together Speakers from Afghanistan, Russia, China, Iran, and Turkey, was aimed at combating terrorism and fostering people-to-people connectivity.

Speaker NA while underscoring the importance of incorporating technology into the parliamentary proceedings said that Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be instrumental in legislative work and enhancing public participation. However, he cautioned that misinformation and fake news can erode public trust in institutions. In this regard, he called for a coordinated policy approach among lawmakers to address such challenges.

Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq emphasized the crucial role of Speakers and Presiding Officers in conflict resolution and consensus-building. He reiterated that only strong and stable democratic institutions can effectively serve the public. He further stated that sustainable peace in the region is only possible when the legitimate concerns of the people are acknowledged and addressed.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful dialogue and adherence to international law, Speaker NA shed light on the longstanding issues of Palestine and Indian-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK), asserting that durable solutions can only be achieved through dialogue in accordance with United Nations resolutions.

Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq underscored the significance of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference as a vital platform for promoting peace, development, and cooperation. He stressed that dialogue and collaboration are essential for lasting peace and prosperity around the globe and extended his best wishes for the successful conduct of the upcoming conference to be held in Pakistan.
