Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was martyred in his office during US-Israeli air strikes on Saturday morning, according to Iranian state media.
Reports said the coordinated aerial assault targeted key installations in Tehran, with international media reporting that around 40 senior Iranian officials were also killed in the attacks.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) vowed to launch what it termed “the most devastating offensive operation” against US bases and Israel, raising fears of a wider regional war.
Analysts warn that such developments risk destabilising the wider Middle East and could have serious repercussions for regional security and global peace.
