At Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, on April 6, 2026, a quiet but significant operation by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) stopped what appeared to be an attempt to use Pakistan as a transit route to Europe.

According to the FIA spokesperson, two Bangladeshi nationals, identified as Muhammad Raju and Shahid, were intercepted during immigration clearance. The men had arrived in Karachi on a tourist visa, presenting themselves as visitors attending a wedding.

However, during routine questioning, immigration officers noticed inconsistencies in their statements. What began as a standard check quickly turned into a deeper investigation.

The travelers claimed they were in Pakistan to attend a wedding ceremony, but further verification revealed that the wedding they referred to did not actually exist. This discrepancy raised immediate suspicion.

Upon inspection of their mobile phones, officials discovered WhatsApp chats and other digital evidence indicating a different plan altogether.

The communications revealed that the individuals intended to continue their journey through Azerbaijan and eventually reach Europe using irregular routes.
Electronic copies of Azerbaijani visas were also found on their devices, strengthening the suspicion that Pakistan was being used as a transit point in a larger migration plan.

Further verification through the Integrated Border Management System (IBMS) confirmed that their claimed host in Pakistan was not present in the country, further exposing the false narrative.

Authorities concluded that the individuals were attempting to reach Europe via the so-called “Dunki route,” a dangerous and illegal migration pathway often used to bypass legal immigration systems.

Acting swiftly, the FIA stopped the passengers from proceeding further and offloaded them from their travel. Officials confirmed that legal proceedings against the individuals are now underway.

This incident highlights the continued vigilance of Pakistan’s immigration authorities in preventing illegal migration and ensuring that the country is not misused as a stepping stone for unlawful travel to other regions.
