Pakistan and Egypt Conclude Joint Counterterrorism Exercise “Thunder-II” at Cherat

RAWALPINDI — Pakistan and Egypt have successfully concluded their two-week-long joint counterterrorism exercise, Thunder-II, at Cherat, marking another step forward in strengthening military cooperation between the two countries.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the exercise was designed to enhance interoperability between the armed forces of Pakistan and Egypt by improving coordination, refining tactical drills, and sharing operational expertise in counterterrorism scenarios.

Special operations units from Pakistan Army’s Special Services Group (SSG) and Egyptian Special Forces took part in intensive training sessions throughout the exercise. The participating troops demonstrated high standards of professionalism, endurance, and combat readiness while executing a range of joint counterterrorism operations.

The closing ceremony was attended by the General Officer Commanding of the SSG as Chief Guest. The event was also witnessed by Major General Mohamed Saad Abdel Razik, Commander of Egyptian Paratroopers, along with the Defence Attaché of Egypt in Pakistan.

Military officials from both sides noted that the successful conduct of Thunder-II reflects the growing defence cooperation and mutual trust between Pakistan and Egypt. They emphasized that such joint exercises play a key role in strengthening long-standing military-to-military relations and improving preparedness against evolving security challenges.

The exercise concluded with a reaffirmation of commitment by both countries to continue expanding defence collaboration in the future.
