Islamabad: China’s Special Envoy for Afghan Affairs, Yue Xiaoyong, met with Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq, in Islamabad for talks focused on regional security and Afghanistan-related developments.

According to sources, the two sides held productive discussions on security challenges, particularly threats posed by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), which they said operate from Afghan territory. Both officials agreed to enhance coordination and synchronize counter-terrorism efforts aimed at promoting regional peace and stability.

The meeting also reviewed preparations for the second round of the Urumqi Process. Sources said China is continuing its efforts to facilitate dialogue between Pakistan and Afghanistan following the first round of talks hosted in Urumqi in early April, which brought together Pakistani and Afghan Taliban officials in an effort to ease tensions and improve bilateral relations.

The discussions underscored Beijing’s growing diplomatic role in supporting regional security cooperation and encouraging engagement between Islamabad and Kabul.
