Quetta, A high-level meeting on law and order was held today at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat under the joint chairmanship of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti. Senior officials from federal and provincial institutions attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the overall law and order situation in Balochistan, the repatriation of Afghan refugees, elimination of hawala/hundi and extortion, prevention of smuggling, and other important matters were reviewed in detail.
Chairman of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the Director General of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), and the Inspector General of the Federal Constabulary gave comprehensive briefings regarding matters related to their respective institutions. They informed the participants about ongoing measures to curb illegal activities in the province, improve institutional capacity, and ensure peace and stability.
The meeting took an important decision to utilize the services of the Federal Constabulary to establish sustainable peace in Balochistan. In this regard, two wings of the Federal Constabulary will be deployed in the first phase, while approximately 3,000 personnel will perform duties in various sensitive areas of the province to further strengthen the law and order situation.
It was also decided that the Federal Investigation Agency would be made more active and effective in Balochistan. For this purpose, all vacant positions in the agency will be filled with local recruits so that employment opportunities can be created for the youth of the province and the institution’s performance can be strengthened at the local level.
During the meeting, the Government of Balochistan and the federal government also agreed to ensure effective monitoring of anti-state activities on social media. Legal action against individuals involved in spreading baseless propaganda against the state and national institutions and misleading the public will be further accelerated.
On this occasion, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi assured the Government of Balochistan of full cooperation and stated that the federal government will continue to extend complete support to the provincial government for establishing peace and stability and eliminating terrorism in the province. He added that full assistance will also be provided to enhance the professional capacity of the Balochistan Police, including modern training and provision of resources. He said that everyone is well aware of the situation in Balochistan and that every possible measure will be taken to establish lasting peace in the province.
Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti said that the Government of Balochistan is taking firm and decisive steps with unwavering resolve to eliminate terrorism and unrest. He stated that the fight against terrorism is not only the responsibility of security forces but a collective struggle of the entire nation, and that national unity and cohesion are essential in this regard. He reiterated that from day one it has been made clear that the writ of the state will be ensured in Balochistan under all circumstances and that there will be no compromise on the rule of law.
The Chief Minister further stated that due to the Government’s effective strategy and the cooperation among institutions, the situation in the province has significantly improved and that today no highways are blocked in Balochistan in the name of protests. He appreciated the support of the Federal Government in establishing peace in the province and expressed confidence that through joint efforts, a coordinated strategy, and national unity, the challenges of terrorism and unrest will be defeated.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti reaffirmed their commitment that the Federal and provincial governments, through mutual cooperation and a coordinated strategy, will ensure the establishment of lasting peace in Balochistan, strengthen the writ of the state, and guarantee the protection of the lives and property of the people.
Apart from federal officials, the meeting was also attended by Member of the Provincial Assembly Mir Zia Langove, Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakeel Qadir Khan, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Hamza Shafqaat, Inspector General of Police Balochistan Mohammad Tahir Khan, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Imran Zarkoon, and other officials.
