The first World Championship for Akhal-Teke Horses will be held from September 4 to 6, 2026, at the Peelbergen Equestrian Centre in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, marking a landmark international event dedicated to one of the world’s oldest and most treasured horse breeds.
The championship, announced by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Pakistan, will bring together breeders, horse owners, equestrian experts, judges and admirers of the Akhal-Teke from around the world.
The event will provide a major platform for international cooperation and the promotion of the Akhal-Teke horse, which is regarded as a national heritage and a source of pride for the Turkmen people. For centuries, the breed has symbolized beauty, elegance, endurance, intelligence and loyalty.
Through consistent efforts to preserve and promote the ancient breed, Turkmenistan has helped secure worldwide recognition for the Akhal-Teke as one of the finest horse breeds.
The inaugural World Championship is expected to become an important milestone in the international promotion of the Akhal-Teke and highlight growing global appreciation for its distinctive qualities and historical significance.
A key feature of the event will be performances by the renowned “Galkynyş” National Equestrian Games Group and artists from the State Circus of Turkmenistan. A distinguished governmental and cultural delegation from Turkmenistan will also travel to the Netherlands to participate in the programme.
The three-day event will feature activities extending beyond equestrian competitions. The programme will include equestrian competitions, a traditional beauty contest showcasing outstanding Akhal-Teke horses, and an international scientific and practical conference focused on the preservation, breeding and promotion of the breed.
A large-scale exhibition showcasing Turkmen culture, crafts and traditions will also be organised at the Peelbergen Equestrian Centre.
The championship is expected to attract participants and visitors from numerous countries, strengthening international cooperation and contributing to the preservation, promotion and development of the Akhal-Teke horse as a priceless element of Turkmenistan’s cultural heritage.
