NEW YORK, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, SAPM Tariq Fatemi and senior officials from both countries were also present.

The two leaders reaffirmed the close and longstanding Pakistan-Iran relationship and emphasized the need to further enhance bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

They exchanged views on the evolving regional situation, with Prime Minister Shehbaz expressing deep concern over the prolonged conflict and stressing the importance of restraint, de-escalation and sustained diplomatic engagement for lasting peace and stability.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of implementing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and reiterated Pakistan’s readiness to play a sincere and constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability.

President Pezeshkian appreciated Pakistan’s principled diplomacy and efforts for regional peace and security. He reaffirmed the strength of Pakistan-Iran relations, based on shared history, culture and faith, and expressed Tehran’s desire to further expand multifaceted cooperation with Pakistan.

Both sides agreed to maintain regular consultations and close coordination to address regional challenges and capitalize on opportunities, while working towards peace, security and prosperity in the region.
