United Nations, Pakistan remains deeply concerned by the disproportionate impact of the Ukraine conflict on civilians. The protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure is an obligation under International Law and International Humanitarian Law and must be fully and consistently respected by all parties.

Delivering a national statement in the UN Security Council meeting on humanitarian situation in Ukraine, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, Deputy Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, said that it is vital to ensure the access and protection of humanitarian workers.

He said that the parties are under obligation to ensure conditions that allow unimpeded access for the humanitarian workers.

Ambassador Jadoon said that the limited cease-fire agreement reached last month on halting attacks against energy infrastructure and also in the Black Sea was a welcome development, adding that it is our hope that the parties would earnestly abide by their commitments and use this momentum for achieving a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire, leading to a just, lasting and durable peace.

“Pakistan’s position on the Ukraine conflict has been consistent. From the outset, we have advocated dialogue and diplomacy for the immediate cessation of hostilities and a peaceful resolution,” he added.

He reiterated Pakistan’s support for the ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at a just and durable settlement of this conflict through a constructive and inclusive process, in full respect of the UN Charter, international law, the relevant multilateral agreements, and addressing the legitimate national security interests of all sides.
