Rawalpindi, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces (COAS & CDF), currently on an official visit to Libya, met Field Marshal Khalifa Belqasim Haftar, Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, and Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief, to discuss regional security and defence cooperation.
Upon arrival, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir was accorded a Guard of Honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Libyan Armed Forces, reflecting the cordial military relations between the two countries.
According to an official statement by military media wing, the meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, evolving regional and international security dynamics, and avenues for enhancing bilateral defence and military-to-military cooperation. Both sides emphasised the importance of collaboration in the areas of training, capacity building, and counter-terrorism.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening defence ties with Libya based on shared interests, mutual respect, and efforts aimed at promoting regional stability.
Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar appreciated the professionalism and operational capabilities of the Pakistan Armed Forces and expressed his desire to further expand defence cooperation between Pakistan and Libya.
The high-level engagement highlights the growing defence relationship between the two countries and reflects a shared resolve to deepen military cooperation in the coming years.
