Pakistan, Somalia Agree to Strengthen Counter-Terrorism, Security and Border Management Cooperation

‎Islamabad, Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi met a high-level delegation from Somalia led by Interior Minister Ali Yusuf. Upon arrival at the Ministry of Interior, Mohsin Naqvi warmly welcomed his Somali counterpart.

‎During the meeting, bilateral relations and mutual cooperation between Pakistan and Somalia were discussed. The Interior Ministers agreed to enhance cooperation in training, border management, and disaster management, and also agreed on adopting a joint strategy against terrorism and extremism. It was decided to further strengthen cooperation in internal security, counter-terrorism, and security-related matters.

‎Both ministers agreed to improve coordination to enhance collaboration in areas of mutual interest. The Somali Interior Minister expressed his determination to benefit from Pakistan’s experience. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi assured cooperation in policing and counter-terrorism.

‎The Somali Interior Minister stated that the steps taken by Mohsin Naqvi for Islamabad’s infrastructure development are commendable. He said that Pakistan understands the challenges faced by Somalia and will provide full cooperation in various fields, including counter-terrorism. He also announced that visa facilitation would be provided to Somali citizens coming to Pakistan for medical treatment and education.

‎The Somali Interior Minister said that Somalia is facing difficult circumstances and is fighting terrorists, expressing hope that the visit would further strengthen relations between Somalia and Pakistan. He added that he had brought a message from the Prime Minister of Somalia for the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

‎The Somali Interior Minister formally presented the special message from the Prime Minister of Somalia to Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif through Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and extended an official invitation to Mohsin Naqvi to visit Somalia.

‎The delegation included the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Sheikh Noor Muhammad Hassan; Hamza Aden, Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Osman Abdullahi, Deputy Police Chief; Liban, Adviser to the Police Chief; Ms. Adal Abdi, Policy Adviser, Ministry of Interior; and Ms. Asma Hagi, Diplomatic Coordinator at the Embassy of Somalia.

‎Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the Interior Secretary, Additional Interior Secretary, Chief Commissioner and IG Islamabad, DG FIA, and other senior officials were also present on the occasion.
