Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Receives Bangladesh’s Adviser on Religious Affairs

Islamabad, 11 September 2025 – Adviser on Religious Affairs of Bangladesh, Dr. A. F. M. Khalid Hossain, called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif today, accompanied by Mr. Md Iqbal Hussain Khan, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Pakistan.

The Prime Minister extended a warm welcome to Dr. Hossain and his delegation, noting that Pakistan and Bangladesh enjoy relations deeply rooted in shared history, cultural ties, and familial affinities.

Expressing satisfaction over the positive trajectory of bilateral ties, including people-to-people exchanges, academic cooperation, trade and economic relations, the Prime Minister emphasized that relations between the two countries should continue to grow from strength to strength.

Fondly recalling his meetings with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in New York and Cairo, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded Professor Yunus’s visionary leadership in poverty alleviation and his commitment to further strengthening Pakistan–Bangladesh relations.

Dr. Hossain conveyed gratitude to the Prime Minister for the warm reception and reaffirmed that brotherly relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh are anchored in historical linkages and common faith. He also handed over a letter from Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, extending condolences over the loss of lives and property caused by recent floods in Pakistan, and offering relief assistance on behalf of the Government of Bangladesh.

Both sides also discussed the prospects of an early resumption of direct flights between Pakistan and Bangladesh to enhance connectivity.

The Prime Minister expressed hope that high-level exchanges would continue to sustain the current momentum in bilateral relations. He reiterated his invitation to the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at his convenience, while the Bangladeshi side extended a reciprocal invitation to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on behalf of the Government of Bangladesh.
