Slight Decline in Terror Attacks with Casualties on the rise: PICSS

Islamabad, In November 2022, a further slight decline in the number of terror attacks while causalities increased by 39% as compared to October 2022. Terror incidents have increased by 50% in the erstwhile FATA, and the number of attacks in Balochistan decreased by 35% during the month. In the 21 security forces actions reported from across the country, 34 suspected militants were killed and 30 others were apprehended.

The number of militant attacks decreases by 12% percent in November compared to October 2022. In November, the militants carried out 34 attacks in which 46 people were killed including 17 security forces personnel and 25 civilians. In these attacks, 49 people also got injured including 35 security forces personnel and 14 civilians. In October the militants carried out 39 attacks in which 33 people were killed and 41 injured. At the end of the month, the proscribed militant group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan announced the ending of its so-called ceasefire and intensifying attacks. Within 48 hours of the announcement, the group carried out a suicide attack in Quetta Balochistan. The month of November witnessed two suicide attacks –one in erstwhile FATA and the other in Quetta.

During the first 11 months of the current year, the militants carried out 330 attacks in which 483 people died while 755 were injured. If compared with the first eleven months of 2021 there is a 24 percent increase in militant attacks 35 percent rise in resultant deaths while 32 percent increase in the number of injured.

During the month of November 2022, in Balochistan, a 35% decrease in militant attacks was reported as compared to October 2022. In November, nine militant attacks were reported in which 14 people were killed including three security forces personnel and 11 civilians while 32 others sustained injuries including 22 security forces personnel and 10 civilians in the province. Security forces also remained active in the province and in the seven reported Security Forces operations, 25 alleged militants belonging to different proscribed organizations were killed and nine others were apprehended.

In KPK, 15% decrease in militant attacks as compared to October 2022. In November, 11 militant attacks were reported in which 14 people were killed including nine security forces personnel and five civilians, while five other people sustained injuries including four security forces personnel. In the security forces’ actions, reported from KPK, six alleged militants were killed and one other was apprehended.

In Erstwhile FATA (tribal districts of KPK), 50% increase in militant attacks compared to October 2022. In November, 12 militant attacks were reported in which 17 people were killed including five security forces personnel and eight civilians, while 12 other people sustained injuries including nine security forces personnel. In the security forces’ actions, reported from erstwhile FATA, two militants were killed and three others were apprehended.

In Sindh, one terror attack was reported in which one civilian was killed. Six security forces’ actions were also reported in which an alleged militant was killed and eight others were apprehended. In Gilgit-Baltistan, one militant attack was also reported from Diamer in which no human loss was reported. In Punjab, one security forces action was conducted in which nine alleged militants were apprehended. No incident related to terrorism was reported from Punjab, Azad Kashmir.
