Karachi — The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Sindh, in a joint operation with civilian and federal intelligence agencies, has foiled a major terrorism plot targeting railway tracks in Karachi.

Addressing a press conference, DIG CTD Captain (Retired) Ghulam Azfar Mahesar and SSP Operations CTD Irfan Bahadur said that five militants belonging to the banned outfit Baloch Republican Guard (BRG) were arrested during the operation.

The arrested suspects were identified as Commander Jahnoor, Ali Jan, Noor Muhammad, Jamak, and Niaz.

Authorities recovered explosive material, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and weapons along with ammunition from their possession.

Officials stated that the militants were planning to carry out a bomb attack on railway tracks in Karachi, which was successfully thwarted through timely intelligence-based action.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to carrying out multiple low-intensity blasts in Shikarpur and Jacobabad over the past few months.

These explosions caused partial damage to railway tracks and train bogies.

The banned outfit had also claimed responsibility for these attacks on social media.

The suspects revealed their involvement in several incidents, including:

June 18, 2025: Blast on railway track in Jacobabad

July 28, 2025: Explosion at PS Humayun, District Shikarpur

October 7, 2025: Blast targeting Jaffar Express passenger train in Shikarpur

December 16, 2025: Explosion at PS Humayun, Shikarpur

January 26, 2026: Another blast at PS Humayun, Shikarpur

According to CTD officials, the militant network was identified through technical and intelligence-based analysis. The investigation also revealed the involvement of a neighboring country in supporting terrorist activities, exposing another link between external elements and militant groups.

The suspects disclosed that they received training in Lehri, Balochistan, where they were trained in handling weapons and planting IEDs. Explosive materials were also supplied from the same area. To avoid detection, the militants transported explosives along with their families.

Authorities have formed teams, in coordination with federal intelligence agencies, to arrest facilitators, accomplices, and handlers linked to the network. Further investigation is underway, and more revelations are expected.
