ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Sunday strongly condemned what it termed the “highly provocative and irresponsible” remarks made by India’s Defence Minister regarding the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, saying the comments distort internationally recognised facts and undermine regional peace and security.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains on the agenda of the UN Security Council and accused India of misrepresenting the internationally recognised status of the issue.

The Foreign Office said the remarks reflected what it described as India’s deliberate policy of threatening regional and international peace and security, adding that such statements were intended to divert attention from India’s actions in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), its alleged sponsorship of terrorism across the region, and its domestic challenges.

Rejecting what it called India’s “aggressive and belligerent rhetoric,” Pakistan reaffirmed its resolve to respond to any perceived Indian adventurism. The statement said the country’s determination had been demonstrated by the Pakistani nation and its armed forces during Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos last year.

Pakistan also called on the international community, particularly the United Nations, to take note of what it described as India’s continued “rogue behaviour” and urged it to hold New Delhi accountable for implementing the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, including those guaranteeing the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
