Signing of MoU between Pakistan & Iran for supply of 100 Megawatts Electricity to Gwadar.

Islamabad, On the instructions of Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Minister for Energy Engr. Khurram Dastgir Khan visited Iran from 10-3-23 to 13-3-23.

Minister Khurram Dastgir held meetings with Iranian Minister of Energy Mr. Ali Akber Mehrabian. During the meeting, both Ministers emphasized on development of bilateral relations between Iran & Pakistan and extending cooperation in the field of energy.

Both Ministers showed interest in initiating new joint ventures in the field of energy.

The aim of Minister Mr. Khurram’s visit was to finalize an agreement of power supply to Gwadar, which was initiated in Minister’s earlier visit in June 2022.In record time of nine months, the electricity transmission line has been laid from Iran to Gwadar.

For the finalization of agreement of power supply, three sessions were held by technical teams in which extensive discussions were held. As a result of these meetings an agreement was signed on 13.03.2023 between Pakistan & Iran to provide 100 megawatts of electricity.

The project will be inaugurated at the earliest. This project will ensure uninterrupted supply to Gwadar and lay the foundations of a prosperous Gwadar.

During his visit the Honorable Minister also attended a ceremony organized by Embassy of Pakistan, Tehran to commemorate Pakistan National Day.

He addressed the Iranian civil and military dignitaries and diplomats who attended the ceremony. In his remarks, Guest of Honor, Honorable Minister said that Pakistan and Iran are two fraternal nations with indissoluble bonds of common faith, cultural affinity and shared history. He expressed the hope that in future the bilateral relations between the two fraternal nations will continue the upward trajectory.

Minister Mr. Khurram Dastagir extended condolences on the loss of human lives in earthquake at Turkiye, Syria and Khoye, Iran.

The Minister extended felicitations to the leadership of Iran and Saudi Arabia on revival of their diplomatic ties.

Iranian Minister for Energy Mr. Ali Akber Mehrabian was Chief guest on the occasion. He stressed that there exists a lot of potential for improvement of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Iran.
