Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan Strengthens Pakistan–UK Trade Ties Through Strategic Engagements in Birmingham and London

Birmingham / London – The Honourable Federal Minister for Commerce, Mr. Jam Kamal Khan, continued his official visit to the United Kingdom with a series of high-level engagements in Birmingham and London, aimed at deepening Pakistan–UK trade cooperation, unlocking new market opportunities, and strengthening institutional linkages across priority sectors.

Birmingham Highlights

In Birmingham, the Minister met with the Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, highlighting Pakistan’s diversified export potential in processed foods, pharmaceuticals, leather goods, IT services, ceramics, and sports equipment. He emphasized Pakistan’s capacity to support the UK’s advanced manufacturing and automotive industries, particularly through light engineering and cost-efficient supply chains.

He also promoted halal-certified processed foods, mangoes, and Basmati rice as high-quality exports. Notably, he underscored bilateral opportunities in green mobility, including EV battery tech and electric drivetrains aligned with Birmingham’s sustainability goals.

During a visit to Birmingham City Football Club, the Minister spotlighted Pakistan’s global role in manufacturing football gear, while a strategic meeting at Nouvo, a major UK food distributor, explored expanding the footprint of Pakistani food brands across British retail chains.

London Engagements

In London, the Minister held key meetings with:

London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) – Promoting collaboration under the UK–Pakistan Trade Dialogue and encouraging sector-specific MoUs, especially in IT and fintech, where Pakistan’s exports have exceeded $3.2 billion. He invited UK engagement in AI, blockchain, and digital assets.

Pakistan Britain Business Council (PBBC) – Acknowledged the Council’s role in strengthening public-private trade linkages and emphasized support for SMEs, women-led ventures, and cultural exports. PBBC welcomed the revival of PIA’s UK operations, expected to boost perishable trade.

UK–Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UKPCCI) – Called for enhanced B2B matchmaking and diaspora-led investments in Pakistan, including solar-powered appliance innovation and supply chains for fresh produce exports to the UK.

The day concluded with a community dinner attended by academics, IT professionals, and entrepreneurs from London’s Pakistani diaspora, where the Minister stressed the importance of private sector collaboration, SME engagement, and deepening institutional business ties between both nations.
