Islamabad, Pakistan has firmly rejected recent remarks made by a senior United States intelligence official regarding its missile capabilities, describing the claims as unfounded and misleading.

Responding to media queries, Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said that Pakistan’s strategic capabilities are exclusively defensive in nature and are aimed at safeguarding national sovereignty while ensuring peace and stability in South Asia.

He emphasized that Pakistan’s missile programme remains well below intercontinental range and is guided by the doctrine of credible minimum deterrence, particularly in the context of regional security dynamics involving India.

The spokesperson noted that, in contrast, India’s development of long-range missile systems—reportedly exceeding 12,000 kilometres—reflects ambitions that extend beyond regional security requirements and raise concerns for neighboring countries and the broader international community.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to diplomatic engagement, Andrabi said the country seeks constructive relations with the United States based on mutual respect, non-discrimination, and factual accuracy. He urged a more balanced and responsible approach in assessing South Asia’s strategic environment to help promote lasting peace, security, and stability in the region.
