Islamabad, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, revealed that a delegation from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, met with President Asif Ali Zardari and himself to discuss support for the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment.

According to Bilawal, the PML-N delegation requested PPP’s backing for the amendment, which includes several significant constitutional changes. “The proposed 27th Amendment envisions the establishment of a Constitutional Court, restoration of executive magistrates, and authority over the transfer of judges,” Bilawal stated.

He further added that the amendment also proposes alterations to the NFC Award, potentially impacting the provinces’ share in the federal divisible pool, and includes suggested changes to Article 243 of the Constitution. Other clauses under discussion involve returning the subjects of education and population planning to the federal domain, as well as ending the ongoing stalemate over appointments to the Election Commission of Pakistan.

In response, Bilawal announced that the PPP Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting has been convened to deliberate on the party’s stance regarding the amendment. “The meeting will take place at Bilawal House, Karachi, on Thursday, November 6, following President Zardari’s return from Doha,” he confirmed.

The CEC session is expected to review the overall political situation in the country, alongside assessing the implications of the proposed constitutional changes.

As the political dialogue between the two major parties gains momentum, observers note that PPP’s decision could prove pivotal in determining the fate of the 27th Amendment and shaping the next phase of Pakistan’s evolving political landscape.
